Objective of the Project
PLYC is implementing long-term program for protection and promotion of children right in Khanewal, Punjab. The program has two outcomes: 1) Reduced PHP in communities, homes, and schools in selected rural districts and urban centers; 2) Improved prevention and response mechanisms to child protection violations in selected rural districts. The program focuses on working on Physical and Humiliating Punishment (PHP) with interventions that focus on bringing the appropriate legislation of banning the corporal punishment in all setting, inclusion of positive disciplining in teachers curriculum and working with teachers and parents on positive disciplining to reduce the incidents of corporal punishment. The interventions under second outcome will focus work on strengthening the child protection system in Khanewal, Punjab.
Objective of the project is: Protection mechanisms (institutional and community based) are in place to prevent and respond to the violence against children in all settings in nine (3 urban centers and 6 rural districts) locations of Pakistan by 2021 Main activities of the project are- Ø Conduct Pre KAP (Knowledge, attitude and practices) Survey with regard to PHP in homes, communities, schools and care institutes Ø Develop and air a radio programme series Ø Design and organize interactive theatres/puppet shows on corporal punishment Ø Develop 4-5 communication messages on positive disciplining and air on cable tv channels Ø CSOs solidarity walks on international days (Universal Children’s Day, etc to support ban on corporal punishment in all settings Ø MoU with education departments of district and city governments for the training of in service teachers on positive disciplining Ø Conducting one day capacity building trainings for 50 community organizations (25 female, 25 male) on corporal punishment issues & positive disciplining (Merging this activity with result 1.3.2 output 1) Ø A one day training of Children Clubs on PHP Ø Inclusion of PHP monitoring in CC plans for villages and Schools
Output 3: 4 Child Right Advocacy Networks (CRAN) - network of child rights CSOs formed and strengthened
Ø Facilitate the formation of CRAN to monitor child rights situation in their respective districts Ø Capacity Assessment of CRAN and development / implementation of 03 years action plans around child rights (laws, legislation, policies, resource allocation and prevention and response etc) Ø Carrying out Annual Child Rights Situational Analysis (CRSA) Ø Maintain the CRAN secretariat and develop linkages with provincial chapters of Child Rights Movement (representation and presentation of district issues quarterly in provincial CRM meetings) Ø Establishment of one District Child Protection Units in Social Welfare Department (furniture / IT equipment for CPU )
